Pumpkin Pie does it for the childrens

"You're THAT Bubblegum Tate?"

Despite the name of the site and our allegiance to Jake the Snake, let's be honest here. Jay Cutler is our favorite NFL pastry. Pumpkin Pie continues to enhance his image in our book. Firstly, he's teamed up with the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters (as seen above) to entertain 100 needy childrens from the Pumpkin Pie Foun--uh, we mean Jay Cutler Foundation.

Also as seen above he has not yet cut his hair but we're still crossing our fingers.

He's also helping another child, a famous one--Broncos teammate Brandon Marshall, whose talent and recent off-field exploits are bringing to mind a young Dennis Rodman. After the DUI, the Darrent Williams incident, and now shredding his arm on a broken television (and you have to have some serious momentum to break a TV screen...we tried shattering a monitor with a hammer back when we were stupid kids and it took more effort than you'd assume) Pumpkin Pie essentially said on the record that Brandon needed to stop acting like a dumbshit 15-year-old and start acting like a full-grown professional (not the Pacman Jones kind, either.) He then went on to display some interesting Q-Buds (the precursor to true Q-Balls) by stopping just short of calling out his front office and owner for their recent human resources shenanigans.

"This year, the third year, it's definitely time," Cutler said. "As the quarterback of this team and the leader of the offense I think I should go ahead and take that next step." -- "It's been three years. Obviously my coach isn't going to lead anything but a conga line at this point in his career."

Cutler even felt emboldened enough to make light of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen's recent cry of poverty, NFL style, joking that he had to go out and purchase his own helmet a couple of days ago. -- "It's really too bad the NFL isn't making BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars. I wouldn't want Pat to have to sell one of his private jets or boats."

Although the team hasn't been a big player in the free-agent market this offseason, Cutler said he had faith the Broncos would be competitive. "I think we still need some weapons, but that's not my job. I'm the quarterback and I get the ball and try and get us some touchdowns," Cutler said. -- "Hint, hint coach...give me something better to work with--or better yet just give me SOMETHING to work with."

The quarterback wasn't happy that the Broncos failed to re-sign veteran kicker Jason Elam. "I am a little worried about that," he said. "He's one of the best clutch kickers in the game. Having been here for that long, I was surprised to see them let him go." -- "Great, so apparently the guy responsible for half of my scoring drives and half our wins was expendable? Wonderful. I didn't realize I was still at Vanderbilt."

Thank God Pumpkin Pie got a real education from a real university. Some football-factory quarterback from Texas, USC, or Michigan might not have been properly prepared to face the intellectual chaos we've got here in Denver. Jay has apparently rationalized that his coach and owner are officially tuned out and the only way anything positive is going to happen on the field at Mile High is if the team's best players man-up and act like leaders. Unfortunately, since the other two best players on the offense are B-Marsh and Travis Henry, it's going to have to be a one-Pie show for the time being.

Maybe Jay is up to the task, maybe he's not. But it's a damn positive sign that he's publicly speaking his mind and taking charge. It may not be enough to get the Broncos back in the playoffs this year, but at least they won't be mailing in games like the Dolphins or Rams. That alone might be worth an extra win or two.

An extra win or two could make the difference in a playoff push, by gum. A sneak into the playoffs would almost make up for the severe lack of Jake Plummer in the NFL. But we still hold out hope that the Snake will strap on the pads one last time and someone will...

LET PLUMMER PLAY!!!

(Well, okay. We really don't think that's going to happen. Even Jon Gruden seems to have given up. But stranger things have happened, and hey, Vinnie Testaverde was like 1,000 years old last year. We can wait.)

Im going to be 100% honest. I dont care for Jay Cutler. I think hes over hyped and over rated. Anyone else watch the superbowl pregame show where they labled him the most disappointing QB in the NFL? I couldnt agree more. Yeah I know, he didnt have protection or a running game or this or that but still. And for him to go out there and publicly scold Brandon Marshall like that, likes hes in a position to question anybody, is just stupid. Its pretty luck that it happened to a young guy, I would like to see what would happen if he tried that against a veteran like John Lynch or Tom Nalen.

To be fair, Griz, we don't see Pumpkin Pie as the second coming either. However, Jay's not unlikeable, and that haircut is comedy gold. He's one of the few guys on the team who seems to even give a shit at this point.

He may have gone overboard with the Marshall comments, but something needed to be said by someone in the organization. It should have really been a harsh ripping from Shanahan, but Shanny's shied away from nearly every responsibility that doesn't involve holding a Lombardi trophy over your head...a ten year process, by the way.

I don't care how "young" Marshall is, he's paid millions of dollars not to do dumb shit. Ben Roethlisberger, Ocho Cinco, and PacMan Jones should have all been tongue lashed by direct peers and coaches, not just by judges and the media.

They're given OUR money, the revenues collected from the fans to do a specific job, and part of that responsibility carries over into making sure your off-field antics don't jeopardize that contract.

But I know that you know all that...you just think Jay overstepped his balance and I can almost agree. You're absolutely right, he'd never go after Nalen or Lynch like that, just like he'd never go after Champ or Rod.

...because those guys are all MATURE MEN and they don't require a scolding they way an IRRESPONSIBLE MAN-CHILD like B-Marsh does. This Broncos team is sorely lacking in leaders.

Maybe Pumpkin Pie went too far in his criticisms, but better he say what he said than shy away and wait for the front office to say something--and all they would have said is "Brandon is a fine young man and he has shown a real desire to strengthening his football commitments" or some nonsense. That helps no one and it lets B-Marsh off the hook. F*** that, he's paid to be our future at WR anf if he wants to act like a jackass, maybe he needs to call Johnny Knoxville and see if he can join the crew.

Honesty and candor are often the difference between being Brett Favre or being Jay Schroeder. If you want to lead, you have to show that you're willing to address real issues. Jay isn't making a perfect effort, but he DID make an effort, and that's more than we've seen from the ENTIRE Broncos roster in over a year and a half.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Hope that didn't seem like a harsh rebuke Griz...we appreciate your support and all. We aren't going to throw you under the bus, Pumpkin Pie-style, hahahh...

But B-Marsh is a sore spot...he really needs to grow up.

Actually I really appreciate a thought out response like that. I was half expecting a "shut the fuck up loser" but you really proved me wrong, and I can respect that.

Let it be known that im not a Brandon Marshal fan either(or a Travis Henry or DEFINITELY not Daniel Graham, but thats another story for another day), but I think were going overboard on him. All he was doing was wrestling with a family member. To this day I still "rough house" with my little brother. Does that mean im childish? If he hadnt slipped, accidently, then nothing would have been made of this, and people would be critisizing (sp?) him right now. But he was unlucky and so now hes a child and needs to grow up. Besides thats not the stupidist thing to happen to a Bronco (anyone else remember Brian Griese and his dog?).

On Jay Cutler I can see your point, but while he may give a shit, it seems he cant get his team too. This year has been some of the worst hotdogging by a denver broncos football team that I have seen in years. Walking here, not swarming on the pile there, jogging through your routs. As a coach, if my high school team tried that in a game it would be armageddon the next practice. Remember when shaun rogers picked one off and took it all the way back? How many people tried to chase him? ONE. Your telling me Brandon Stokley, Brandon Marshall (Cant remember if Javon Walker was healthy that game or not) Travis Henry/Selvin Young (which ever was in) Cecile Sapp, Daniel Graham or even Jay Cutler couldnt have caught him? Its embarising. I doubt Cutler could motivate his teammates to finish the last slice of pizzia. And please dont mention his age, you dont have to be a veteran to get under your guys skin and make them want to fight. And of course his 14 INTS and 11 Fumbles speak for them selves. Yes I know he totaled 21 TD's, but those 25 turnovers make him -4 in my book.

As you said to me, this isnt a "harsh rebuke," but me speaking how I feel. I really enjoy your guys work and hope you keep it up. I eagrley (sp?) awaite your response.

Jay Cutler was hurt he couldn't have chased him because ramsey was in... he would have caught him tho

Ok, then what about his mighty 45.6 QB rating in week 13 against Oakland or his 32.7 rating in Week 16 against San Diego? People like to talk about how great he was his rookie year, but in reality the only teams he looked even good against (Cincy and Arizona) were rank #31 and #32 aginst the pass. It drives me crazy how people talk about how great he is when he hasnt even secured a winning season.

Let Plummer Play! said...

Well, people calling Pumpkin Pie "great" or implying he's Elway/Favre/Manning 2.0 annoys us too.

All fan pressure in Denver has ever done is get QBs run out of town.

o yea grizzy because jake the season vet. never had any games with a 32.7 qb rating. Jay has 1 1/4 season under his belt we will see a much improved jay this coming season. look for 25 TD passes...around 13 picks. about 4 rushing TDS..3400 yards passing and 350 yards rushing. If our D can hold a lead we will be back in the playoffs.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a link to a story on how the all mighty John Elway was dissapointed with the way Cutler handled Brandon Marshall.

And Horseriderman, the diffrence between Cutler and Plummer is simple. Jake plummer is a winner. He comes to every match to compete, he fires up his team. If hes having an off day (which he had plenty, dont get me wrong) he found a way to fire up the running game. You ever watch the sidelin? You see him running around, pumping up the lineman, slapping helmets with Tatum Bell or Mike Anderson, or getting in Rod Smiths and Ashly Lelie's(sp?) face. What does "Super" Jay Cutler do? Sit and stare at his feet. I have said this before, but here we go again. Being a QB is more then throwing the ball pretty. Hell Jeff George did that, and was he great? That is the diffrence between Jay Cutler and Jake Plummer.

Dont beleive me? Anyone that knows anything about Bronco football knows the offensive lineman NEVER EVER talk to the media. But yet, the week after the 2005 loss to the Steelers ol Tom Nalen himself scheduled a press confrence to defend his QB.

Would he do that for Cutler?
